Harry Christophers and his world-class choir make a welcome return to the International Concert Series with one of their best-loved programmes, a much-needed evening of musical beauty, purity and tranquillity.
‘Angel of Peace’ threads together music from more than 800 years into a seamless whole – from the enraptured songs of medieval abbess Hildegard of Bingen to the magical realms of a new work from leading contemporary composer Anna Clyne. We’ll also hear three haunting pieces by the great Arvo Pärt and two soaring 16th-century antiphons by John Taverner – while the concert takes its title from Will Todd’s sumptuous setting of words by Cardinal Newman.
Together, these nine pieces of music from across the centuries speak of peace and acceptance – and of the ecstatic joy their reassurance can bring.
