The closing concert in this season’s International Concert Series turns The Bridgewater Hall into an intimate salon, a space where music meets conversation and every note tells a story.
Matilda Lloyd, described by BBC Music Magazine as a ‘trumpeter extraordinaire’, is our host, soloist and narrator for a deliciously varied programme that echoes the spirit of 19th-century salon concerts – where music both new and familiar rubbed shoulders with high society.
We’ll travel from sparkling Bach to dazzling Gershwin via Haydn, Fauré and Schubert’s ‘Death and the Maiden’. We’ll also hear from two composers who held such salons themselves: Marianna Martines, a key figure in Viennese music during the time of Mozart and Haydn, and Pauline Viardot, who welcomed the cream of Paris society to her musical gatherings.
Step inside! This is one exclusive salon to which everyone’s invited.
