The Instituto Cervantes Manchester is pleased to present a special solo recital by guitarist Francisco Bernier, marking the 150th anniversary of Manuel de Falla, one of the defining figures of twentieth-century Spanish music. Through works by Francisco Tárrega, Isaac Albéniz, Joaquín Turina, Manuel de Falla, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Agustín Barrios Mangoré, the programme explores the artistic traditions, cultural affinities and musical currents that shaped Falla’s world and continue to resonate in dialogue with his legacy. Traversing virtuoso guitar writing, Spanish and Latin American popular traditions, refined lyricism and richly evocative national styles, this carefully curated programme reflects the enduring exchange between local identity and universal expression, offering a musical journey that places Manuel de Falla at the centre of a vibrant artistic landscape extending across Spain and Latin America.
