We’re so excited to be able to offer you the chance to be part of this concert, performing in a fantastic choir alongside the Jazz Jamaica band and singers.

Choir participants will perform alongside the Jazz Jamaica band and vocalists at The Bridgewater Hall, on some absolute classics from the Trojan Records catalogue, including ‘You can get it if you really want’, ‘Wonderful World, Beautiful People’ and ‘Lively Up Yourself’.

As part of the project, you’ll receive the following;

  • A pack of resources from Jazz Jamaica, for you to get started learning these songs – this will include simple sheet music, lyric sheets and MP3 practice tracks via Google Drive (or email if required)
  • On Wednesday 8 May at 7.00pm, an online introduction to Jazz Jamaica and The Trojan Story concert from Jazz Jamaica’s Choral Director – this will be hosted on Zoom by The Bridgewater Hall.
  • Sunday 2 June, 1.00pm – 4.00pm, an afternoon rehearsal and sing-through for all the choir participants, led again by Jazz Jamaica’s Choral Director. This will be held at The Bridgewater Hall.
  • Saturday 8 June – Pre-concert soundcheck and rehearsal, time TBC, and then performance from the Choir Seats (behind the stage) as part of Jazz Jamaica’s ‘The Trojan Story Concert’. You’ll be sat in the Choir Seats at the back of the stage, and led by Jazz Jamaica’s Choral Director.
  • An exclusive 20% off discount for audience tickets for the Jazz Jamaica ‘The Trojan Story’ concert across all price types.
  • A special commemorative programme booklet for you to remember the project with.

Please note: This event is for 14+ years old. All 14-17 year olds must be accompanied by a responsible adult to all sessions, including the Zoom session and culmination performance.

Tickets to be part of the choir cost £12. We have a number of subsidised free participant tickets for those who would otherwise be unable to take part – for more information about these, please contact learning@bridgewater-hall.co.uk.

This event is a Bridgewater Hall commission and presented as part of Streetwise Opera’s Re:Discover Festival 7 & 8 June 2024, a two day celebration exploring the music of artists of African and Caribbean heritage.
