Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.3 39′
Prokofiev Symphony No.5 46′
A crowd-pleasing symphony and a majestic piano concerto guaranteed to bring the house down.
Prokofiev’s defiant and triumphant Fifth Symphony was written in a time of war, and described by the composer as celebrating ‘the greatness of the human soul’. One of the 20th-century’s great masterpieces, tonight we’ll enjoy this under the baton of conductor Nodoka Okisawa, who is known for her penetrating insights into Prokofiev.
Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto, beloved for its eloquence and legendary in its technical demands, has its own electrifying ending. When Pavel Kolesnikov joins us to play Rachmaninov, the results will always be unforgettable.
