The University of Manchester Chorus, together with the University of Manchester Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Robert Guy, perform Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem. The chorus will be supported by soloists Marcus Farnsworth (baritone), Gavan Ring (tenor) and Katherine Broderick (soprano) and The Choristers of St Asaph’s Cathedral and the Alumni Chamber Orchestra.

A masterpiece, Britten’s War Requiem was written for the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral in 1962. It juxtaposes the traditional Latin text of the Requiem Mass with the anti-war poetry of soldier Wilfred Owen, who was killed a week before the Armistice.

It is a truly fitting masterpiece to commemorate the start of VE week in May 2020.
