Russian maestro Vassily Sinaisky returns to Manchester to direct the BBC Philharmonic in two genuinely majestic works. After piano Denis Kozhukhin tackles Rachmaninov’s demanding but thrilling Third piano concerto, the orchestra heads off on a tour around the galaxy in Holst’s timeless suite.
Journey Through Music (Free pre-concert event) 6.15pm Barbirolli Room.
Come along to a fun, interactive exploration of the music that features in the evening’s concert.
Meet players from the orchestra and get involved creating a brand new piece of music based on Holst’s journey through the solar system.
The workshop will focus on brass and percussion but everyone will be able to join in whether you play an instrument or not.
After the workshop, stay for the BBC Philharmonic’s concert to hear the orchestra perform the full tour around the galaxy in Holst’s timeless suite, The Planets.
