Classical music expert Dr Jonathan James introduces the evening’s programme.
We are pleased to welcome one of the great virtuosic violinists of today – Viktoria Mullova with the Swedish Philharmonia (The Gävle Symphony Orchestra), conducted by Jaime Martín. The evening begins with Tchaikovsky’s musical tribute to Shakespeare with his symphonic poem, The Tempest.
Viktoria Mullova then plays Prokofiev’s ethereal 2nd Violin Concerto. In the second half the orchestra will perform Sibelius’ dramatic Symphony No.5, with its majestic finale depicting the flight of swans across a Finnish lake.
Part of Manchester’s International Concert Series, The Bridgewater Hall’s own classical music concert series.
