Classical music expert Dr Jonathan James introduces the evening’s programme.
We welcome back to Manchester the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra in a performance conducted by Ilya Mashkevich with a Manchester favourite, and one of today’s most exciting artists, Jennifer Pike, performing the virtuosically challenging Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. This orchestra will open their concert with Sibelius’ patriotic hymn to his homeland, Finlandia, and the evening will end with Tchaikovsky’s anguished, heart-rending Symphony No.6, the Pathetique.
Part of Manchester’s International Concert Series, The Bridgewater Hall’s own classical music concert series.
