Shostakovich Festive Overture | Tchaikovsky Nutcracker Suite (arr. for Symphonic Brass by Timothy Jackson) | Prokofiev Violin Concerto No.2 | Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4
Russia; home to lavish onion-domed cities, panoramic countrysides dotted with white-trunk birch and a selection of history’s greatest composers. NCO’s main orchestra will sweep you off your feet into a Russian fantasy featuring the works of Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev. Destination Russia begins with Shostakovich commemorating the October Revolution (Festive Overture). Audiences glide through the winter snow on an angel-drawn carriage to The Land of Sweets (Nutcracker Suite).
The orchestra are joined by acclaimed soloist Benjamin Baker for Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.2 and close the concert with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.4, a touching dedication to his best friend.
This performance is powered by Russian spirit and brought to you by some of Great Britain’s brightest young players – it is not to be missed.
“Baker brings to every track an attractive, sonorous quality of tone and expression, demonstrating an impressive talent.” – Classic FM
