Magnard Ensemble is an exceptionally lively and enterprising young wind quintet . Their programme blends original pieces with new arrangements and commissions. The Ligeti Bagatelles are brilliantly written for wind and demand great precision and virtuosity. Zemlinsky’s famous Humoreske is an exuberant piece in a late-romantic idiom. Toby Young is a composer rapidly gaining prominence, with his works performed by the London Symphony and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras. You never want to second-guess what a new piece might be like, but Toby’s music explores the boundaries between pop and classical music; expect pop-fusion elements which will be accessible and stimulating.
