Sirius Chau flute | Chi-Hoi Cheung piano
Poulenc Sonata for Flute and Piano, FP 164 | Claude Bolling Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano | Prokofiev Sonata for Flute and Piano in D major, Op.94
Sirius and Chi-Hoi show the strength, brilliance, softness and lyricism that can be brought to the flute and piano repertoire in the hands of fine musicians. The Poulenc and the Prokofiev Sonatas (the latter was heard in a violin recital during the last Mid-day season, and it will be interesting to compare this with Prokofiev’s original configuration) are two of the finest pieces in the repertoire, combining sparkling virtuosity with gorgeous, well-shaped melodies. The Bolling Suite is fluffy and jazz-influenced, and completes a vibrant recital programme.
