The Instituto Cervantes Manchester, in collaboration with The Iberian and Latin American Music Society, is pleased to present Aires de España, a selection of Spanish repertoire that includes some of the most iconic soprano romanzas from Spain’s lyrical heritage.
On this occasion, we will enjoy the Dúo Gimeno-Sanchís, with the soprano Aida Gimeno García and the pianist Carlos Sanchís Aguirre presenting a programme that highlights Siete canciones populares españolas by Manuel de Falla, alongside pieces by Bautista and Falla in collaboration with the renowned writer María Lejárraga, and concludes with a selection of zarzuela arias by José Serrano, Miguel Marqués, and Ruperto Chapí, celebrating the vitality of this lyrical heritage.
Dúo Gimeno-Sanchís are the winners of two awards at El Primer Palau 2022 in Barcelona, and participants in the MUSAE 2023 and AIE 2024 programmes, the duo formed by Aida Gimeno and Carlos Sanchis aims to explore the repertoire for voice and piano, offering a fresh perspective through carefully-designed programmes around different themes.
The Instituto Cervantes Manchester, a public entity established by the Spanish government, is dedicated to the promotion and teaching of the Spanish language and Spain’s co-official languages, as well as the diffusion of the vibrant cultures and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries. Since its inauguration in 1997, the Instituto Cervantes Manchester has found its home in the iconic Campfield Arcade building, serving as a vital meeting point for the Spanish-speaking community and lovers of Ibero-American culture in the city.
