Stephen Threlfall discusses the evening’s programme.
Nicola Benedetti’s ability to captivate audiences with her innate musicianship and dynamic presence, coupled with her wide appeal as a high-profile advocate for classical music, has made her one of the most influential classical artists of today. Max Bruch’s First Concerto for Violin was a bittersweet achievement for the composer. Weighed down by its popularity, he was frustrated by the relative lack of success of many of his other works. A grand finale will be heard in the evening’s final work, Sibelius’ Second Symphony, which the Finnish composer described as ‘a confession of the soul’.
Part of Manchester’s International Concert Series, The Bridgewater Hall’s own classical music concert series.
