Acclaimed as an ‘outstanding ensemble’ by The New York Times, the Verona Quartet is the Quartet-in-Residence at Oberlin College and the 2020 recipient of Chamber Music America’s coveted Cleveland Quartet Award.
The Verona has captivated audiences across four continents, including Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall, and Melbourne Recital Hall. The Quartet has also performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and at premiere festivals such as La Jolla Summerfest, Caramoor, and Bravo! Vail. Highlights of the current and upcoming season include a return to Carnegie Hall, a debut tour of England, two tours of Asia, and guest residencies at Singapore’s Yong Siew Toh Conservatory and the University of Texas at Austin.
The Verona Quartet regularly champions cross-cultural enterprises and premieres new music by celebrated composers. This includes Michael Gilbertson’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated Quartet and two new works co-commissioned by the Smithsonian Institution’s Freer Gallery in 2023 in honour of its Centennial.
The Verona Quartet’s debut album, Diffusion, was praised by BBC Music Magazine for its ‘radiant glow.’ The Quartet’s second album, SHATTER, released in June 2023, showcases works written for the Quartet by Julia Adolphe and Michael Gilbertson as well as Reena Esmail’s Ragamala, in collaboration with Hindustani vocalist Saili Oak.
For this performance of the Schubert String Quintet the Verona Quartet are delighted to be joined by cellist Hannah Roberts.
