Beethoven Violin Sonata No.5 Op.24 ‘Spring’ | Janáček Violin Sonata
Giovanni is known for his revelatory performances and charismatic leadership of Manchester Camerata. Giovanni has since moved to Berlin, where he is developing a career as an international soloist. His recent recording of the Ysaye Solo Sonatas has garnered stellar reviews. He is a phenomenal, unique talent, and for this concert, will be using the Mid-day’s ‘house’ pianist, Simon Parkin.
There could hardly be a greater contrast between the two major sonatas in the programme. The serene, sparkling and sunny Beethoven against the Janáček, with its near-frenzied beginning, troubled atmosphere and hysteria, alongside moments of great poise and beauty.
