It’s been said that Nielsen’s relish for the timbres of wind instruments arose from his love of nature and interest in human character, which helped shape his Wind Quintet. Composed for friends, the members of the Copenhagen Wind Quintet, he crafted each part to suit each player’s character, both as a person and performer. So fine is Nielsen’s idiomatic writing for the instruments, that the quintet rapidly established itself as a 20th century classic. Today Hallé Principals, Amy Yule, Stéphane Rancourt and Sergio Castelló López, will joinforces to breathe new life into this masterpiece.
This concert takes place at Hallé St Peters.
