Programme includes:
Rossini William Tell Sunrise and Galop
Villa-Lobos Bachianas Brasileiras No.1
Sollima Vibrez!

The Hallé’s lunchtime Chamber Series at Hallé St Peter’s provides a unique opportunity to hear players and guest artists perform in more intimate surroundings.

The Hallé cello section, led by Nicholas Trygstad, performs a programme of music with a distinctively Latin feel, written and arranged just for cellos. The concert opens with music from Rossini’s final opera, William Tell: beginning with Sunrise, a slow and languorous depiction of an Alpine dawn, it is followed by the most famous part of the work’s overture, the quick and lively Galop. In his Bachianas Brasileiras No.1, Villa-Lobos combines his admiration for the counterpoint of J. S. Bach and his love for the songs and dances of his native Brazil. The concert is brought to a close with Violoncelles, Vibrez! by Giovanni Sollima. It was written to celebrate his own teacher, Antonio Janigro, who was probably relieved not to have to play either of the two solo parts himself!
