Dvořák Cello Concerto 40′
Mette Henriette This Too (UK premiere) 4′
Bartók Concerto for Orchestra 36′ Y8
After her last visit to the Hallé, The Guardian commented that Tabita Berglund left her ‘appreciative Manchester audience invigorated’. She’s joined by the young Swedish cellist Jakob Koranyi, described by The Strad as ‘a force to be reckoned with’, who makes his Hallé debut in Dvořák’s concerto. Although mainly written during his US stay, the work reflects his homesickness for Bohemia, as well as being a heart-felt memorial to his beloved sister-in-law. After it, Berglund introduces a haunting miniature, This Too, by her Norwegian compatriot Mette Henriette, whose multi-talents as a composer, saxophone and jazz improviser have established her formidable reputation. Also while in the States, in exile from war-torn Hungary, Bartók wrote a final masterpiece, his virtuosic showpiece Concerto for Orchestra where the sections of the orchestra share the limelight.
