From the bristling buzz of Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice to the enchanting hypnotism of Dutilleux’s Le Temps l’Horloge the BBC Philharmonic will be joined by soprano Elizabeth Atherton as we paint pictures of France through the decades. Elegantly breaking up this feast of popular classics is some food for thought in Birtwistle’s Mahlerian inspired, The Triumph of Time, a mesmerising and introspective piece that came to exemplify his processional style.
