Hello!

Welcome to the February edition of our Bridgewater For All Playback, where we look back at the highlights of the Learning and Participation programme at The Bridgewater Hall for this month. From ancient lullabies to classic rock sing-alongs February has seen the launch of live performances that have made our middays unforgettable and a whole lot of fun!

We hope you enjoy reading what we’ve been up to in February.

Live at Lunchtime 2024

We’re so happy to announce that our free lunchtime concert series, Live at Lunchtime, is back! From loop pedals to Spanish classical this series is going to be one to remember. Last year we welcomed over 1,900 people to the Hall, and we’d love to see even more of you this year. Our café will be open from 11.00am – 2.30pm, so why not grab a bite to eat and enjoy the music! Choral music stars, The Mancunium Consort, kick off our series on Friday 3 May, at 12.45pm – see you there!

Live Music Now – Specialist Schools Concert – 5 February

Ste Forshaw and David Kelly brightened up our February with their lovely, relaxed schools’ concert. The duo took plenty of requests from the students, meaning we had a whole range of music from Queen’s We Will Rock You to Blinding Lights by The Weeknd! Percussionist David also took us through the history of the drum kit, and how it’s evolved over time which was super interesting. A big thank you to all the schools who got involved, and to Live Music Now for helping make these events happen.

Bridgewater Hall Singers – 7 February

February is always a very special time for our Bridgewater Hall Singers as it happens to be their birthday month! On the 18 February our Singers celebrated nine years of signing and making memories together with choir leaders Alice and Louise from Simply Singing CIC. Quite naturally, our Singers sang ‘Happy Birthday to Us!’ quite beautifully and looked back on some of the highlights of the years. A special shoutout to Eileen who brought the birthday vibes with balloons and decorations. Here’s to many more years!

Live Music Now – Songs and Scones – 9 February

At Songs and Scones this month, we were joined by vocalist Ben and percussionist Ali who treated us to some classic rock tunes – what a perfect way to get that Friday feeling going! With songs ranging from The Kinks to The Rolling Stones it was great to see so many people getting involved and signing along with the duo.

Music Makers – 23 February

This month’s Music Makers theme was lullabies! Our Music Maker leader for this month, Ruthie, shared lots of lullabies from around the world with our participants, who then sang these to their little ones. One lullaby which stood out was one of the first lullabies recorded in 7th century Wales called Dinogad’s Smock. In this song, the mother shares all the father’s triumphs to the baby boy who is swaddled in a richly made cloth. No Music Makers would be complete without the bubble machine, which made an appearance as Ruthie introduced us to a bath time lullaby which featured a little turtle named Tiny Tim!
