Sarah Yaseen is a Manchester based mother, singer/songwriter and peacemaker. With a soulful voice and accompanied by guitar or darabouka, Sarah’s raw Acappella/cantata style takes the audience into her world of emotions and feelings of love, faith and personal struggle.
Trained by her late father, Sufi Muhammed Yasin, Sarah’s musical gift has led her to performing on a national and international level. She is inspired by Qawaali music and Ghazals by musicians such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Mehdi Hassan and Abida Parveen.
Sarah began writing and composing her own lyrics in 2001 and founded WING in 2003; a Nasheed group of young Muslim women. WING has performed at many cultural and diversity events raising awareness of the tradition of Islam through simple songs; to help educate and share the commonality of the three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Sarah’s interest to different cultures has allowed her portfolio to adapt by singing songs in varied native languages.
Sarah is founder and Secretary of Visions of Peace; a charity which inspires and helps children in the UK to set aside differences of race, religion and gender through the medium of art and music.
