Does the devil have all the best tunes? The Hallé’s filmed production of The Soldier’s Tale, featuring Peter and Sergio, was described by The Times as ‘devilishly good’. Here they’re joined by Paul Janes for Stravinsky’s own trio version of his intriguing tale of deals with the devil. There’s more devilish activity afoot with Bazzini’s show-stopping Dance of the Goblins. Often performed as a concert encore, this virtuosic piece will certainly show you what Peter is made of. Thankfully the programme is not completely tipped for hell as Sergio and Paul will bring you Poulenc’s Clarinet Sonata, composed at the request of jazz legend Benny Goodman and dedicated to fellow Les Six member, Arthur Honegger.
