Stravinsky’s homage to his teacher, Russian composer Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov, went missing after its 1909 premiere – but it was recently rediscovered and will be performed in Manchester for the very first time tonight. Following Carolin Widmann’s performance of Mendelssohn’s much-loved E minor Violin Concerto, it’s back to Russia for Tchaikovsky’s dramatic Fifth Symphony.

Calling all violinists! Bring your violin and take part in a creative workshop led by violinists of the BBC Philharmonic and special guest, solo violinist, Carolin Widmann. A Q&A with Carolin will be followed by the opportunity to whip out your violin (whatever your ability) and play music inspired by Mendelssohn’s E minor concerto.
Journey Through Music concerts feature music that is particularly accessible for children. They include pre-concert events and programme notes written specially for a younger audience. The pre-concert events are a great opportunity for the entire family to get to know the music.
This session is recommended for ages 8 and above although younger children in family groups are welcome. Free to concert ticket holders – you do not need an additional ticket.
