Putting the ‘Pro’ into Prosecco…
As the temperature begins to rise and the sun starts making a regular appearance we’ll start reaching for the prosecco. As you’ll know there’s nothing more satisfying than a chilled glass of Italy’s finest on a warm summer’s day. But did you know there’s more to it than just a glass of fizz.
In recent years prosecco has become the nation’s favourite fizz outselling Champagne. In fact, in the UK we drink 2.5 times more prosecco than the drink’s native Italy!
What you might not know is the protected status behind prosecco… In 2009 prosecco was granted the Controlled Designation of Origin status, which you’ll see on the bottle as DOC or DOCG. This label guarantees the prosecco has been produced in compliance with production regulations and certifies its quality as set by the Consorzio di Tutela del Prosecco DOC.
In short, this means prosecco can only be called prosecco, if it’s made from the glera grape (the grandpapa of prosecco), production must be within certain regions in Italy and it can only be served from a glass bottle under three litres. So there you have it, you learn something new every day and you’ve now put the ‘pro’ into prosecco.
This is something we researched before setting up Bella, the Prosecco Van. Obviously, with any new business, you need to make sure you’re on top of any laws and regulations before you start, as this not only shows your professional approach to business but it also guarantees the quality of service you’ll provide to your customers.
But don’t let it stop you because once you’re out there talking to customers who have the same passion for your product, that’s a feeling you can’t describe. And if I could bottle that feeling up so it’s there whenever I needed a little pick me up, I’d be the happiest person alive.
When we’re out with Bella we get to meet some amazing people, and sharing our love of the delicious sparkling wine is a great conversation starter. The conversation always develops into discussing how prosecco and frizzante can be enjoyed on its own or how it can be used as a base for a cocktail or two.
Our favourite cocktail is what we call a ‘Bella-cello’ which is perfect for summer. All you need is prosecco, limoncello liqueur, frozen raspberries and a sprig of mint to garnish and hey presto, the perfect summer cocktail.
But if you want to take the hassle out of the drinks for your next event Bella, the Prosecco Van will become your new best friend. Bella’s there for every celebration in your life and she comes with her very own professional team of companions, who will make sure your guests are looked after to the highest standards.
