M is for Music, Mozart and Manchester -
Welcome to Piano 2006

Welcome to Piano 2006 — a celebration of Mozart, the world’s most popular composer, presented in The Bridgewater Hall, one of the finest and friendliest halls in the world.

Join us for this six-day extravaganza which I hope you will enjoy — whether as a new listener, or as a Mozart aficionado — as much as I have enjoyed planning it. From the genius of Mozart to music of the present day by the great Polish composer, Penderecki — Piano 2006 presents some of today’s finest pianists and interpreters while also championing exceptional young talent.

With so many varied concerts, workshops and free foyer activities, as well as accessible, introductory pre-concert and daytime events, the piano will be seen and heard in all its guises — not least in the Mozart Concerto Series, the magnificent centrepiece of these festivities.

I look forward to welcoming you to the party!

Barry Douglas
Artistic Director, Piano 2006
