Natalie Clein is always pushing the boundaries of her art, yet remains firmly rooted in its great traditions. The repertoire for unaccompanied cello is little-known beyond the Bach Suites which set an impossible standard for other composers. One musician who succeeded in the medium was Kodály, and Natalie has made a celebrated recording of his remarkable Sonata, which mesmerises audiences with its virtuosic intensity, stretching the cello to its very limits. Austrian composer, Thomas Larcher wrote his Cello Sonata specially for Natalie and, in similar vein, it combines elegy with moments of extreme expression.

‘…Clein proves a more than worthy champion, not least in the tumultuous finale, a fabulous compendium of themes that sound as if drawn from within the instrument, turning it into zither, bagpipe and chanter…’ - Financial Times
