The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia is one of the oldest musical institutions in the world, founded in 1585. Under their English-Italian Music Director Antonio Pappano, the orchestra perform a rousing programme that reflects many Roman connections, we hear Verdi's rarely performed symphonic introduction to Aida. Liszt lived at the Villa d'Este near Rome in later years, while Respighi's colourful scores depict the atmosphere of the great city, culminating in his spectacular vision of legions marching along the Appian Way.

‘Pappano’s Roman forces are awesome to hear... This is above all Pappano’s show.’ Gramophone
