Described by some distinguished music critics as ‘thrilling and exciting’ and ‘electric,’ Christopher Orton is one of the leading recorder players of the younger generation. His repertoire is not confined to the Baroque period, but embraces a full range of styles. In 2007 he became the first recorder player to be awarded a BBC Performing Arts Trust Award. The £20,000 grant has enabled him to commission a number of new works for recorder, including the work by Edward Gregson which receives its premiere in Christopher Orton’s Bridgewater Hall debut recital.
