Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony paints an idealised picture of rural life, while Mahler's setting of Chinese poems evoke nature's spiritual aspect in music both heart-breaking and sublime. The concert opens with Mosaic, a new work by Bushra El-Turk whose music is influenced by theatre, dance and literature as much as her Lebanese roots, life as a Londoner and her love of folk music.
