The Bridgewater Hall - Alive with Music

International Concert Series

Welcome to another exciting season of international concerts at The Bridgewater Hall, now firmly established as one of Europe’s finest venues for classical music. From top international orchestras to organ recitals and renaissance choral music to contemporary sounds - there is something for everyone.

To help you navigate through the season, there are several themes to follow, including a short residency by pianist Murray Perahia, featuring him as conductor, concerto soloist and recitalist. Performances by The Tallis Scholars, The Musicians of the Globe, The King’s Singers and The Academy of Ancient Music explore the intricate relationship between words and music. In collaboration with Manchester Camerata, there will be a day of activities to mark the 150th anniversary of Gustav Mahler’s birth. This event is part of wider project with all of the Hall’s resident orchestras to present a complete Mahler symphony cycle during 2010.

In addition, we are pleased to welcome many more wonderful artists and orchestras to Manchester, including Pinchas Zukerman with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the debut appearance of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic performing Shostakovich’s massive ‘Leningrad’ symphony. We are also delighted to welcome back the Czech Philharmonic, surely one of Europe’s finest orchestras. Organ fans can look forward to the Manchester debut of flamboyant American, Cameron Carpenter. With appearances by ever popular performers such as Dame Evelyn Glennie, Sir James Galway and Alison Balsom, the 2009/10 season is a feast of musical delights.

And finally… look out for additional musical happenings throughout the season. There are post-concert Divertimentos by Chetham’s School of Music, pre-concert talks, CD-signings, piano and organ tours, as well as opportunities for learning and participation!
