The Bridgewater Hall - Alive with Music

Colleges and Universities

At The Bridgewater Hall we’re committed to supporting musical education at every level.

We work closely with resident orchestras Manchester Camerata, The BBC Philharmonic and the Hallé. Throughout the season we hold regular pre-concert talks by these orchestras and visiting artists, whilst study days with Manchester Camerata occur several times each year.

 Forthcoming Opportunities

  • We're looking for student soloists or small ensembles to perform in our foyers during March and April. A pilot of these performances during December proved very popular, and we're keen to invite more students to build audiences and experience by offering free lunchtime concerts. Whilst we're mainly looking for classical performers, we're happy to include more contemporary styles if you're keen to be involved. Full details, available dates and application details can be downloaded on the right.
  • We have an exciting opportunity coming up for young cellists in Greater Manchester. International performer Natalie Clein is offering a one-off masterclass to five musicians aged 16-20, targeted particularly at young people who will be starting or applying to music college within the next two years. The masterclass will be held on Wednesday 22 February - download full details on the right.

Our International Concert Series also offers exciting opportunities for the next generation of musicians to work with today's leading artists. In 2011,The Bridgewater Hall offered music students and early music enthusiasts the chance to take part in a workshop on Purcell's The Fairy Queen with Philip Pickett and the New London Consort, whilst emerging film makers participated in a one-day film making workshop with AlbinoMosquito, inspired by Claire Denis and a performance by tindersticks to accompany extracts from her films.

We receive regular applications from students, graduates and young people seeking practical work experience or internships. At present we do not have a system set up for long-term placements for individuals aged over 18,  but in response to these enquiries we are in the process of developing an internship scheme for 2012. We cannot accept CVs or other applications at this stage, but are happy to retain your details if you'd like to receive information when it becomes available. Please contact us if this would be of interest.
