The Bridgewater Writers and Writers' Workshops

Workshops with The Bridgewater's Writer-in-Residence, Terry Caffrey, are available on Thursdays for school and community groups. Participants can expect to develop their creative writing and literacy skills through games, exercises, performance poetry and lots of fun and laughter.

The Bridgewater Writer's course will commence at the end of April and run for 6 weekly sessions. Participants will meet to channel their creative writing skills with the support and guidance of poet-in-residence, Terry Caffrey. Open to anyone interested in taking their creative writing to a new level.

Write for Life! is a project supported by the Roald Dahl Foundation, which works with young people from around Greater Manchester over a sustained period (10 sessions) helping them to improve their literacy and communication skills and culminating in publication of their work.

Further details about all workshops and the writer's course from daniel.achim@bridgewater-hall.co.uk Tel: 0161 950 0000

Their first collection of writings by Bridgewater Writers, Wishbone Palace, was published by The Bridgewater Hall Community Education Trust in August 2000, and can be purchased at The Bridgewater Hall Shop (price £3).

Wishbone Palace (excerpt)

The Day set aside
with Hallé guide, and
you could've cried - grey gales outside
and rain, rattling roofs as runaway
children spilled off coaches like tossed
confetti in a sea of smiles, a flood of
fun, a canal of cheer, a stream of sun.

Last Night (excerpt)

Last night I was so excited
About going to The Bridgewater Hall
I could not get to sleep
I can't wait to hear the music of the orchestra and the choir
